About the game
The forgotten half of the launch that started it all: Pokémon Red and Pokémon Green were released simultaneously in Japan on February 27, 1996, rather than Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue as the rest of the world remembers. Venusaur appears on the cover, and its set of exclusive Pokémon matches the one assigned to Pokémon Blue outside Japan, including Sandshrew, Vulpix, and Meowth. It is technically the roughest game of the entire first generation: Pokémon sprites look entirely different from later releases, and it has the most glitches, including the famous MissingNo. Pokémon Green was never officially released outside Japan, so it is often omitted from game lists even though it helped launch the series.

A diagram, not a world map: distances are not to scale, there are no coastlines, and a route that bends in the game is a straight line here. The directions are accurate, though — every connection matches the game. The legend below the drawing explains each symbol.
- Route — number inside
- Sea route — Surf only
- City
- Pokémon League
- Interior — cave, forest, tower; placed next to its entrance
