Effectiveness chart

Types

All 18 types

Type decides a battle more than stats do: a well-chosen move deals double damage, a poorly chosen one deals half, and against some matchups it does nothing at all. Every Pokémon has one or two types, and every move has exactly one. With a dual type the multipliers multiply — which is where four-times-effective hits come from, hits that even a healthy Pokémon does not survive. Where these numbers come from and which matchups are really worth memorizing is explained by the type chart guide.

Frequently asked questions

How many Pokémon types are there?
Currently 18 — from Grass and Fire to Dark, Steel and Fairy.
Which type is strong against the others?
See the chart below: the row is the attacking type, the column is the defending type, and the value is the damage multiplier. For example, Water deals 2× to Fire, Ground and Rock.
How do dual types work?
A Pokémon with two types inherits the multipliers of both — the multipliers stack. The Type Calculator does the math for you.
