About the game
A version heavily inspired by the animated series. The adventure begins with Pikachu, who follows the hero instead of staying inside a Poké Ball and responds to the player's actions with expressive reactions. The three classic first partner Pokémon are obtained from characters encountered during the game, while Jessie and James from the anime take over as recurring antagonists. Pokémon Yellow was also the first entry to use the Game Boy Color's color palette, although it runs on older hardware as well.

A diagram, not a world map: distances are not to scale, there are no coastlines, and a route that bends in the game is a straight line here. The directions are accurate, though — every connection matches the game. The legend below the drawing explains each symbol.
- Route — number inside
- Sea route — Surf only
- City
- Pokémon League
- Interior — cave, forest, tower; placed next to its entrance
- Path between places
- Path that requires Surf
- Entrance to an interior — not a passage to the other side
