About the game
The game that started the entire series. You play as a young Trainer from Pallet Town who travels across the Kanto region, earns eight Badges, and tries to complete a Pokédex containing 151 creatures. Charizard dominates the cover, while Pokémon Red has its own set of version-exclusive Pokémon, including Ekans, Growlithe, and Scyther, none of which can be found in Pokémon Blue. Trading through a Game Link Cable was essential, not a novelty: without another player, completing the Pokédex was simply impossible.

The number you see in the game is regional — different from the National number in our Pokédex. These lists keep the in-game order.

A diagram, not a world map: distances are not to scale, there are no coastlines, and a route that bends in the game is a straight line here. The directions are accurate, though — every connection matches the game. The legend below the drawing explains each symbol.
- Route — number inside
- Sea route — Surf only
- City
- Pokémon League
- Interior — cave, forest, tower; placed next to its entrance
- Path between places
- Path that requires Surf
- Entrance to an interior — not a passage to the other side
