Trainers

71 trainers

This section gathers trainers from five regions: Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh and Unova. For each one you will find the city where you meet them, the Pokémon type their battles are built on, and for Gym Leaders also the Badge awarded for a win. Every region has the full Elite Four lineup together with its Champion, and League battles are listed in the order they are fought. Gym order is given where sources confirm it — in Kanto and Hoenn it forms a clear path through the region. A few trainers appear twice in this section because they hold different roles in different regions; each such card links to the others.

Kanto

Kanto hands out eight Badges for victories in its Gyms — from the Boulder Badge in Pewter City to the Earth Badge in Viridian City. Alongside the eight leaders the list also includes Janine, Koga's daughter, who runs his former Gym in Fuchsia City, and Blue from Pallet Town, holder of the Earth Badge.

Gym Leaders

Elite Four

The Elite Four awaits at the Indigo Plateau, home of the Pokémon League. Entry requires eight Badges from the Gym Leaders, and the Elite Four do not award Badges. The four trainers are defeated in one run without healing at a Pokémon Center. The battles go in this order: Lorelei — Ice, Bruno — Fighting, Agatha — Ghost, Lance — Dragon.

Johto

Johto spreads its eight Gyms from Azalea Town to Blackthorn City. Every leader brings a different type and a different temperament — from Bugsy's Bug types to Clair's Dragons — and all of them appeared in the Generation II, IV and V games.

Gym Leaders

Elite Four

You face the Johto Elite Four at the Indigo Plateau, the shared home of the Pokémon League of Kanto and Johto. Will, Koga, Bruno and Karen battle in turn, building their teams around the Psychic, Poison, Fighting and Dark types. Koga was previously the Gym Leader in Fuchsia City in Kanto and joined the Elite Four in Johto; Janine took over his Gym. Bruno is a member of the Elite Four in both regions.

Champion

In the Johto Pokémon League the Champion is Lance, who specializes in the Dragon type. The Champion is faced after the Elite Four, and the same character is known from Kanto, where Lance is the last member of the Elite Four.

Hoenn

Hoenn leads through eight Gyms in a fixed order: from Roxanne in Rustboro City to Juan in Sootopolis City. The region places its leaders on islands, in craters and in treetops, so the road to the Badges is clearly marked on the map.

Gym Leaders

Elite Four

The Hoenn Elite Four are four trainers defeated one after another in the Pokémon League in Ever Grande City, after earning eight Badges from the Gym Leaders. The order is Sidney, who specializes in the Dark type, Phoebe in Ghost, Glacia in Ice and Drake in Dragon. The Elite Four do not award Badges. The characters come from the Generation III and VI games.

Champion

After defeating the whole Elite Four in Ever Grande City, the way is barred by Steven Stone, the regional Champion who battles with Steel-type Pokémon.

Sinnoh

Sinnoh stretches its Gyms from the mining town of Oreburgh City to seaside Sunyshore City. Eight specialties — Steel, Ice, Water, Ghost, Grass, Fighting, Rock and Electric — match the rugged landscape of the region from the Generation IV games.

Gym Leaders

Elite Four

The Sinnoh Elite Four are four trainers defeated one after another in the Pokémon League of the Sinnoh region, and entering the League requires earning eight Badges from the Gym Leaders first. The order is Aaron with the Bug type, Bertha with Ground, Flint with Fire and Lucian with Psychic. The Elite Four do not award Badges. The characters come from the Generation IV and VIII games.

Champion

After the Elite Four comes the regional Champion Cynthia, whose team is not built around a single type.

Unova

Unova gathers twelve Gyms from the Generation V games, from icy Icirrus City to draconic Opelucid City. Its range of types is the widest in this section: next to Ice and Dragon there are Bug, Electric, Poison and Flying. Striaton City breaks the one leader, one Gym rule: it is run by three leaders, each with a different type, and there is a single Badge for all three.

Gym Leaders

Elite Four

In the Unova Pokémon League, after earning eight Badges from the Gym Leaders, you face the Elite Four made up of Shauntal, Marshal, Grimsley and Caitlin. Shauntal relies on the Ghost type, Marshal on Fighting, Grimsley on Dark and Caitlin on Psychic. From Generation V they can be challenged in any order.

Champions

Unova has two Champions, because the title changes between games. In Black and White, after defeating the Elite Four in the Pokémon League, the Champion is Alder from Floccesy Town. In Black 2 and White 2 the title passes to Iris from Opelucid City, who was a Gym Leader in White and builds her battles on the Dragon type.
