About the game
The companion version to Pokémon HeartGold, with Lugia as the cover legend, obtainable much earlier than Ho-Oh. Differences also include regular encounters and the available legendary Pokémon, so completing the Pokédex still requires trading. Otherwise, it offers the same features: a Pokémon following the player, the bundled Pokéwalker, a redesigned Safari Zone, and the Pokéathlon. Many players consider it the finest remake in the series.

A diagram, not a world map: distances are not to scale, there are no coastlines, and a route that bends in the game is a straight line here. The directions are accurate, though — every connection matches the game. The legend below the drawing explains each symbol.
- Route — number inside
- Sea route — Surf only
- City
- Interior — cave, forest, tower; placed next to its entrance
- Path between places
- Path that requires Surf
- Entrance to an interior — not a passage to the other side
