About the game
The series' Game Boy Advance debut was a technological leap that also rebuilt the battle system. Pokémon Ruby introduced Abilities, natures, and Double Battles, along with weather that genuinely affects combat. In tropical Hoenn, players meet Team Magma, which seeks to expand the landmass, and awaken the cover Pokémon Groudon. Beyond the main story are Pokémon Contests and customizable Secret Bases. The price of progress was a lack of compatibility with older save data.

A diagram, not a world map: distances are not to scale, there are no coastlines, and a route that bends in the game is a straight line here. The directions are accurate, though — every connection matches the game. The legend below the drawing explains each symbol.
