Energy types
Every Pokémon card has an Energy type, which powers its attacks. This is not the same as a Pokémon's type in the video games: the card game uses its own narrower list, and Pokémon whose video game type has no direct equivalent are assigned to other TCG types. Only Pokémon cards have a type; Trainer cards and Energy cards do not. That is how the game works, not a gap in the data. Some types have appeared on cards since the earliest sets, while others arrived with later series, and the year-range column shows when each one was in print.

1,923 cards in the catalog have no energy type — those are Trainer cards and Energy cards, which carry no type at all. 102 cards have more than one type and count toward each of them, so the numbers in this table add up to more than the whole catalog.
